From 19 to 20 September 2016, REMONDIS held its annual forum in Goslar. This year’s forum focused on topics surrounding the labor force. Particularly, the REMONDIS forum was aimed at assessing the state of today’s labor market and workforce, and to look at the challenges and opportunities we will face in the future. Over 300 guests from both Germany and abroad attended in this year’s conference. These were professionals from different backgrounds: professionals from politics, science and entrepreneurship listened to the different presentations, and were given the opportunity to voice their opinions on the various topics at hand.

11th year of the REMONDIS forum

This year marked the 11th year of the REMONDIS forum. Our conference was organized in close cooperation with the city of Goslar, located near Hannover in Lower Saxony, at the very heart of Germany. REMONDIS was honored by the presence of high-level guest speakers. In particular, our management was pleased to welcome Sigmar Gabriel, Federal Minister for the Economy, and Vice Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. Furthermore, Nobert Rethmann, honorary Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Rethmann Group attended the event in Goslar.

Decision making a key area of focus

Decision-making was a key area of focus at this year’s forum. Our managers discussed the importance of good decision-making. Making good decisions has a major influence on the sustainable development of companies, but also has a wider impact on our society. Good decision-making is not only strong leadership, but also assuming responsibility and taking ownership of the choices made. Nobert Rethmann has acknowledged this aspect, and attached a particular importance to the quality of decision-making. He never settled for what was available today. Instead, Mr. Rethmann always questioned the state of the art of the industry, by looking where it would go tomorrow.

    A changing perspective on resources

Mr. Rethmann did not just change certain facets or individual features of his industry. Rather, he decided to reconsider the very way our entire industry works. He changed the perspective of how we look at “waste”. Instead of considering refuse materials as a burden, Mr. Rethmann saw different fractions as a valuable resource to be reused in the production cycle. Therefore, he pushed to find new ways and solutions to reuse as much of the materials as possible, and to re-introduce them into the material life cycle.
