On their way to the top: Our REMONDIS® trainees

From 23 January to 3 February, REMONDIS trainees from all over Europe participated in the REMONDIS Trainee Days. During two weeks, these young professional participated in an intensive programme of training sessions and site visits aimed at discovering the world of REMONDIS. The aim of this particular programme is to best prepare these individuals for their respective roles within the company. In the course of the Trainee Days, participants of the workshop were given the opportunity to travel to REMONDIS sites all across Germany.

The traineeship at REMONDIS is a great opportunity for young professionals to undergo a year of professional orientation within the company. During a period of 12 to 24 months, our young professionals are given the opportunity work in different company departments, for a set period of time. By undergoing this process, trainees are able to discern their particular interests in working for REMONDIS, and are able to better formulate a more long-term vision for their role within the company. 

    24 participants, 14 days, 12 plants, 10 cities, 6 seminars

    During the 2 weeks of training, our trainees were provided with an extensive range of activities. The agenda included a large portfolio of coaching sessions, sites visits and networking opportunities.

    Trainees were provided with an extensive programme of training. The lecture schedule included the basics of the German and European legislation on environmental services, business ethics, standards in client relations, and general do's and don’ts of our industry. Trainees were given both collective and individual feedback, and were provided with career orientation sessions, in order to provide them with a clear perspective as to their future role within the company.    

    Participants were able to visit some of the most interesting sites in REMONDIS' infrastructure portfolio, with the waste to energy facilities in Oberhausen and Bremerhaven, sorting plants for municipal waste in Bochum and Meschede, or the green waste processing facility in Witten. Furthermore, participants visited a REMONDIS Aqua facility in Monchengladbach, where our company conducts water treatment operations for a major German brewery. 

    A diverse group of young professionals

    Participants of this year's Trainee Days came from very different backgrounds: ranging from engineers and technical specialists to commercial management trainees, as well as human resources specialists and public relations professionals. Furthermore, the traineeship presented a great opportunity for trainees to meet, exchange their experiences at REMONDIS and offer council to their peers. The traineeship days are also one of the founding steps to establishing an internal company network that will likely be of great help for the future REMONDIS managers in their respective careers within the company. 

    Learning how to manage and lead, from real leaders

    Our trainee programs at REMONDIS are designed in such way that trainees get first hand impressions on what it means to actually lead a successful company. As a major international environmental services provider, REMONDIS functions in a decentralized mode of operations. Managers are given many freedoms to make their own decisions and assume responsibility for these. This entrepreneurial freedom is what makes REMONDIS so successful. For these reasons, it is important for trainees to hear and learn from the experiences of their elders, in order to understand what it takes to be successful in leading day-to-day operations, to take effective and responsible decisions, and to overcome potential challenges.
