REMONDIS participates in German-Russian raw materials conference

In November 2016, REMONDIS participated in the ninth German-Russian raw materials conference. As part of this two day conference, participants discussed various issues surrounding the topic of : ”The raw materials business and its responsibility towards the climate and the environment”. The raw materials conference was attended by numerous high level personalities, such as Sigmar Gabriel, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany (then Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy),  and the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Arkady Dvorkovich. Hendrik Vonnegut, Managing Director of REMONDIS International attended the event to speak on behalf of REMONDIS.

REMONDIS in Russia: A pioneer in the area of recycling

REMONDIS started its operations in Russia in 2008. Our company managed to quickly identify a strategic focus, both in terms of activities and geographic location. REMONDIS OOO now operates from two sites located in Dzerzhinsk and Saransk, located within 1000km to the east and the south of Moscow, respectively. REMONDIS’ main objective in Russia is to organise an effective waste collection system. Our company is implementing a separate collection scheme for different fractions, and is undertaking significant efforts to implement more local recycling activities.

    A cooperation based on a long-term vision

REMONDIS has adopted a long-term strategy for its activities in the Russian Federation. It maintains an open and constructive dialogue with many different stakeholders in Russia, irrespective of geopolitical developments.

Our company engages in regular conversations with a wide range of local partners on the ground in Russia, in order to allow for an active exchange of know-how and best practice. Furthermore, REMONDIS seeks to cooperate with these different actors in order to tackle some of the important issues of our time, such as climate change and the conservation of important resources.

Working for a more sustainable future for Russia

REMONDIS is committed to the Russian market in the long-term. Our company welcomes the government’s most recent legislative project aimed at increasing recycling rates throughout the country. For example, Russia aims to introduce obligatory recycling rates for most types of packaging by the end of 2017.

The plans should create a more long-term prospect for the Russian recycling market: it will likely encourage investments in new infrastructure, allowing for new technologies to be implemented in the country’s environmental services sector.
